When teaching the lope from the walk, you can expect four or five trot strides.  You may have to use the whip to encourage a "lope within a lope" or more impulsion.  You can expect a month or more to perfect the lope from the walk. A consistant lope on command will need to be achieved before leaving the round pen (going to a show).
